Rotary Technology Tournament sponsored by Airbus UK 20th Oct 2016

Truly inspirational talent was on show at Coleg Cambria for the 6th annual Rotary Technology Tournament sponsored by Airbus UK. This end of half term display of talent saw  8 teams from Flint High school, St Brigid’s Denbigh and Ysgol Glan Clwyd of St Asaph engage in a battle of wits to design and construct a bridge using nothing more than card, string and drinking straws.  Easy? Not when it had to support a kilogram lead weight in the middle and have a lifting mechanism.

Coleg Cambria apprentices from Airbus, Promethean and Thomas Cook Airlines acted as judges and mentors for the students.   Overseeing all their efforts were retired engineers from another generation from the Rotary clubs of Mold and Flint & Holywell.  Event organiser, Steve Blakesley from Flint and Holywell Rotary said, ”This was a superb team effort. We look forward to more schools entering next year to give their students a chance to start a career in a STEM subject.”  Next year it’s on  Thursday 19th October 2017.
