Members welcomed Julie Platt, Fundraising Manager at Chester Zoo to the weekly Monday meeting – a unique presentation on the diverse range of activities at the zoo – research, environment, conservation (Act for wildlife), information sharing and a whole range of topics – not just the zoo itself.
A few facts – 2nd most visited tourist attraction in UK (1st Tower of London) – 1.9 million visitors / year, site is on 125 acres employing 1000 staff to look after and support welfare of 21,000 animals. Total turnover is £35 million and all commercial profits are invested in the charitable arm of the zoo.
Membership has increased from 62,000 in 2014 to 137,000 in 2018 – a measure of the success in a local attraction
A sincere vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Alan Brooke.
